Hebbal Lake is Natural lake Located in the northern Bangalore Along Bellary Road. this lake was created in 1537 by Kempe Gowda. Most lakes in the Bangalore region it was formed by the damming natural valley systems by the construction of the surrounding wall. The collection of the rainfall water area of the lake was found to be 3750ha and this area includes some residential areas like Yeshwanthpur, Mathikere, Rajmahal Vilas Extension, Bharat Electronics Limited, Hindustan Machine Tools Limited Colonies.in the year of 1974 the lake was spread over an area of 77.95ha and in 1998 it was 57.75ha. Based on the rainfall of the region, the annual catchment was estimated at 15.2 million cubic meters, and the storage capacity of the lake was estimated in 2000 to be 2.38 million cubic meters. And this lake was managed by Karnataka State Forest Department, in 2002 the management was transferred to the Lake Development Authority a non-profit society that started with the aim of managing lakes in the Bangalore region. Indo Norwegian Environment Programme has to lead one project with a cost of 27million rupees for lake restoration, they introduced the two artificial islands using the soil from the removal of sand and mud from the bed of a flowing river. And these two are islands become the roost sites of many water birds. This river, we can see water birds including large water birds those are likely Spot-billed Pelican, Eurasian Spoonbill, Shoveller, Pintail, Garganey, Little Grebe, Coot, Spot-Billed Duck.
In the year of 2004 LDA Introduced a process of Public-Private Participation where private companies bib for the lakes to Develop And Maintain Them for the next 15years. The lakes near Habbal Nagawara and Vengaiahnakere are leased for 15years to East India Hotels Ltd, Lumbini Developers, and ParC Ltd, Respectively. The LDA leased one of the largest lakes in Bangalore that is Hebbal lake leased out to the East India Hotels (The Oberoi ) For a period of 15years.
This seasonal lake used to get filled during the monsoon and habitually go dry in the summer. It has a big variety of aquatic plants and a large number of birds live around it. Hebbal lake is well known for the park, Hebbal Lake is well known for the beautiful park, the boating facility and for the bird watching opportunities. Hebbal Lake was alone home to over 70 species of water birds including 40 from the Himalayan and Central Asian regions. Due to increasing in water pollution, the variety has reduced but the numbers are even enough to make a visit. And it is the best spot for photography lovers.
