Bellandur Lake is a lake in the residential area of Bellandur in the southeast city of Bangalore and it is the largest lake in the city. Bellandur Lake was used For Landing the amphibious Aircraft During The period of British Rule. And it is the part of the southern and the South-Eastern Drainage System Of the city. And it Spread over an area of 3.61km And the Average depth is 30ft catchment area is 148km. Water from this lake flows further east to the Varthur lake, From Where it flows down the level of eventually into the Pinakani river basin.in May 2015 foam covers the water surface caught fire and burned for hours.and the lake caught fire again in January 2018.

Bellandur lake is originally a branch of the Dakshina Pinakini river. The lake was manufactured during the reign of the Western Ganga Dynasty, Ruled Between the 4th century to the 10th century. Bellandur Lake is a major water body which is situated in one of the three main valleys of Bangalore.it is apart of the Ponnaiyar River Catchment and water from Bellandur flows to Varthur Lake, Finally joining to the penna river. Most of the Bangalore people are releasing the toxic and waste materials into a Bellandur lake, dangerously polluting it, resulting in wildlife around the lake is decreasing day by day and also caused the loss of underground water recharge.

Bellandur lake, infamous for its pollution, Gaint chunks of smelly, white foam that looked like cotton. The first time BDA is investing in a timetable to wash down the lake. though the specialists had reliably kept up that the lake can be Desilted simply after 2020, when all sewage treatment plants are ready for action, they hadn't committed to a specific date. the national green tribunal ordered in April that all industries around Bellandur Lake be shut and Punishable on anyone found dumping waste into the lake. the main reason behind the lake frothing is in every day more than 500 million liters of undertreated sewage containing detergents flow into the Bellandur Lake.
